Obituary

Recorded Service for Tracy Martin – https://youtu.be/pfqvleAduRM

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Tracy Elda Mary Martin (nee Spooner), a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

After a valiant battle with ovarian cancer, she left this world peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at the age of 48.

Tracy was born on July 18, 1976 in Sudbury, Ontario to Larry and Ginette Spooner.  On April 30, 1994, she married the love of her life Paul Martin.  Together, they raised four beautiful daughters: Abigail (Kevin Bowman), Kaylee (Ryan Hopcraft), Alexis (Justin Greig), and Kiandra (Zack Vokes).  A dedicated grandmother, Tracy will be lovingly remembered by her six grandchildren: Scotlyn, William, Charlotte, Raelyn, Everly and Brynlee.

Tracy was the treasured granddaughter of William (pre-deceased) and Elda Spooner, as well as Rolland and Jeannine Joyal (both pre-deceased).  She was a loved daughter-in-law to Dave and Heather Martin.

She was a loving sister to Lee-Ann Spooner (Ciaran McCarthy) and Tina (Matt Gardy).  Tracy was also a beloved sister-in-law to Brian Martin (Bryn), Steve Martin and Tamara McDonald.  Tracy was an incredible aunt to Drake, Kaden, Chloe, Avery, Rowen, Aubrie, Benjamin, Brooklyn, and Tommy.

Tracy will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family and friends. Her spirit and laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

From a young age, Tracy had an unparalleled calling to motherhood and selfless servantship.  Her focus was always on the needs of others and how she could help.

She met the love of her life Paul, lifeguarding at Nickel District Pool in Sudbury and over the past 30+ years built an incredible family together.  Raising her four girls was the pride of her life.  She loved watching them play hockey, baseball, volleyball and chatting about their latest interests, happenings, or shopping needs.  She did not miss a beat with her girls.  She was on top of all that was happening in their lives.  Not a day went by without Tracy being in constant contact with her children, family, and closest friends, particularly, her “bestie” Carrie Vokes and “fourth sister” Julie Laferriere.

Tracy was known for her quick wit, pleasant smile and particular love of shopping and gifting.  The simplest pleasures in life brough great joy to Tracy.  She loved nothing more than to be surrounded by her children, grandchildren and family, whether outside by her pool or sitting in her living room.

A key theme of Tracy’s life was her insatiable desire for togetherness and strengthening the bonds of family.  No matter what was happening, she brought people together.  Her door was always open.  Each and every day, Tracy worked at creating the most nurturing and loving environment for those closest to her.  She did not take time for granted and ensured we all made the most out of all we were given.

Over the years, Tracy was a pillar of strength for her immediate and extended family.  She was the glue that kept everyone together.  Her family values of unconditional love, loyalty, respect, responsibility, generosity, sharing, and togetherness will live on through her family for generations to come.  Subtle in her ways, she was a force that could not be ignored, and will be forever missed.

Funeral service for Tracy Martin will be held at the Port Elgin United Church, 840 Bruce St, Port Elgin on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 11 am.

Following the service, a celebration of Tracy’s life will be held at the Walker House, 146 High Street, Southampton between 12:30 and 3:30 pm where family and friends are invited to gather, share stories, and honor her remarkable life.

You are welcome to join at both gatherings or to whichever one you prefer.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation in Tracy’s memory.
