Obituary
Barbara Jean LePage, age 90, passed away peacefully at the Southampton Care Centre on Saturday November 23, 2024 with family beside her.
Barbara went to Ryerson College, where she met and married the love of her life, Peter B. LePage. Together for 66 years, they had 3 children; Patricia, Stephen and Richard (Sandra); 6 grandchildren, Mike (Emilia), Kerri, Lindsay (Steve), Brian, Meghan (Alex), Ryan (Iva) and 2 great grandchildren Audrey and Elena. She is also survived by her sisters Katherine, Susan and Mary, her sister in law Virginia and many, many nieces and nephews.
Barbara worked at Sears for many years and successfully rose to the position of head buyer for major furniture goods for all of Canada and was a trail blazer as one of the first female business executives in her field. Barb and Peter retired from Mississauga in 1996 to the sunsets of Southampton where the LePage family has spent summers since the turn of the century.
Barbara was crowned Guelph’s Miss Cinderella 1953 and was quite literally a beautiful force of nature as anyone who knew her will attest. She loved people and had a big heart for all her friends and family and was an active and passionate crusader for so many causes throughout her life. Even during her business career she remained a Tawny Owl leader for the girl guides and a cancer canvasser/volunteer long before she became a cancer survivor herself. In retirement, she continued to be very active in the community as a Chantry Island Boat Tour guide and with Seniors on Patrol with the Saugeen Police Department (we pity those who crossed the line on her watch!). We believe she will continue to serve in the afterlife, perhaps starting as a greeter at the Pearly Gates but with her eye on eventually being Chair of Heaven’s social organization committee!
Barbara will be warmly embraced by her late husband Peter, her Mom and Dad, Tony and Jean Page, her brother Don (Virginia) and her son in law David Wilson. The many dogs in her life that she loved so much, will also be eagerly awaiting her arrival.
Barb will be sadly missed but loving remembered forever by family and friends as she has left us with a treasure chest filled with memories and bold, colourful stories that will keep our hearts warm and make us smile for generations to come.
Cremation has taken place. A small, private family service to take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers or donations, please just keep your fondest memories of Barbara close to your heart – this will make her eternally joyful!
“Do not mourn me for I have not left you. Look in the eyes of my children and my grandchildren and you will see me there”
