Obituary
Julia Lobsinger (nee Ash) passed away on January 28th, 2025 after a brief hospitalization at the Owen Sound site of Brightshores Health System. Julia has been predeceased by her parents Edgar and Thelma Ash, her brother Richard Ash, sister Sherry Ash and her son Steven Paul Lobsinger. She is survived by her husband of 61 years Ken Lobsinger, their daughter Pam and many extended family and friends
Although the last few years of Julia’s life had been affected by her progressive dementia, she continued to live independently under the watchful eye of her husband Ken and with the services provided at Owen Sound Gardens Retirement Residence. She continued to enjoy time at the Lake Huron shore of the family cottage and still had great recollections of her past life events and sharing those with us.
Julia grew up on a family farm in Sullivan township, attended high school in Chesley and then nursing school at the General and Marine School of Nursing in Owen Sound, graduating as an RN in 1962. She met Ken in Owen Sound as he had come to play hockey for the local Jr B hockey team. They married moved to a farm in the Tara/Keady area raised their children and participated in these communities’ activities. Julia was very active at the Keady United Church working on committees and governance, up until a few years ago. She was a 4-H leader during her daughter’s high school years and also quite the sports woman playing broomball, softball (which she also coached), and curling. Ken and Julia moved back into Owen Sound but stayed very connected to the Keady and Tara communities. She also enjoyed traveling, she favoured the East Coast and one of her last trips was a fabulous trip to Newfoundland/Labrador with her daughter Pam
Julia was a proud registered nurse, having worked in paediatrics, emergency, recovery room and inaugurating the pre surgical screening unit at the previously named Grey Bruce Health Services. She was a determined advocate of nursing and healthcare in general and was an active member and then board member of the Ontario Nurses Association (ONA). What she learned with ONA she was able to apply to her roles on Grey Bruce Huron Perth District Health Council and as a Board Member at Hope Grey Bruce once she had retired from nursing
Julia will be missed by so many, but she will always live and be remembered in our memories.
A funeral service will be held on Monday February 3rd 2025 at 11am at the Keady -North Derby United Church, with lunch to follow
Expressions of remembrance can be made to the Keady-North Derby United Church or the Brightshores Health System Owen Sound Foundation.
