Obituary

Robert Clive Lilly

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob to some, Rob to others) Lilly at the Brightshores Owen Sound Hospital on Sunday Feb 2nd with his wife, Jane Ann, and their dog, Mia, at his side. Rob died just one month before his 77th birthday after a brief respiratory illness.

Born in England and raised in St John’s, Newfoundland, Rob was a close brother to the late George (Daphne), Noel (Anne) and Steve (Colleen), a much-loved uncle to Matthew (Heather), Erica (Philippe), Ian (Renee), and Andrea (Mike), and a special nephew to Uncle Hal. Rob was predeceased by his parents, George and Marjorie.

Rob trained as an electrical engineer in Nova Scotia, then relocated to Port Elgin where he worked at Bruce Power until his retirement.

Sports were always part of Rob’s life. He competed with his university diving team, played hockey and baseball, and coached women’s baseball. As he grew older, his love of sports transformed into cheering for his favourite teams.

Rob was passionate about the outdoors. He loved fishing, camping and canoeing. He and Jane Ann often hiked and rode the trails with one their beloved dogs happily trotting along beside them. Campfires always brought out Rob’s amazing singing voice. His many Newfoundland songs and jokes were legendary. He was a Newfoundlander to the core.

Rob had many special qualities that made him unique. He was fiercely loyal, honest and highly principled. He was meticulous, researching everything in great detail. Fondly nicknamed Crusty, he had a gruff exterior, but those who knew him saw the softness of his heart. Rob was a man to be remembered!

A gathering to celebrate Rob’s life will be held on Saturday June 7, 2025 from 1-4 p.m. at the Bruce County Museum, 33 Victoria St. N., Southampton.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Rob may be made to the Grey Bruce Animal Shelter. https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/7838
