Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family of Peter Mark Leger announces his passing on May 3, 2023, at the age of 59.

Amazing husband of Susan Dollar of Port Elgin.  Loving father to Paul and Madeleine.  Beloved son of Lorenzo and the late Mary Leger of Moncton, New Brunswick.  Dear brother of Joan, Terry (Sean Donegan) and Lisa (Rob Baracchini), all of Moncton.  Proud uncle of Jacob Leger and Perry Dollar. Peter will be dearly missed by friends and family in Ontario, the East Coast and elsewhere.

Born in Amherst, Nova Scotia and raised in Moncton, New Brunswick, Peter remained a proud Maritimer despite the many years that he lived in Ontario. Following university, Peter began a career in accounting but later decided to attend law school to satisfy his long-held fascination with criminal law. Peter practised on both sides of the criminal law bar – first as a defence lawyer in London and later as a Crown Attorney in Owen Sound.

A proud Canadian, Peter was a music lover (especially Canadian musicians), and a devoted fan of the Montreal Canadiens.  From a young age, Peter was an independent thinker who enjoyed challenging authority. He was a news junkie and loved to travel, with a particular fondness for a good road trip.

Peter enjoyed a very full (although too short) life filled with wonderful friends, travel, boating, good food, and Irish whiskey. He was a big man who lived his life loud and large and who has left a big hole in the lives of those who knew him.

A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Joseph’s Church, Port Elgin, Ontario on Wednesday May 10, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Grey Bruce Hospice Inc. which operates Chapman House in Owen Sound whose staff provided compassionate care to Peter in his final days.
