In Memory of
David O’Reilly
December 19, 1959 – July 29, 2024 - Age 64

Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of David Allan O’Reilly of Toronto on July 29th at the age of 65. He died peacefully in his sleep at his partner’s home in Colombia. David was born on December 19, 1958, and raised in Hamilton. He went on to study tourism at LaSalle College and finished his degree in Sociology at Concordia University in Montreal.  Several years later, he moved to Toronto and began his career in banking.

He is survived by his beloved life partner German Perfetti. He was the cherished brother of Andrea (Terry), Jennifer (Dean), and Teresa. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews and their children: Lee, Jennifer, Casey, Clementine, Jesse, Drake, Joe, Bella, and Emily. David is predeceased by his parents, Jean and Ronald O’Reilly.

Thirty-five years ago, David was diagnosed with HIV. At the time, the life expectancy for someone living with AIDS was 7 months. David lived for another 35 years—years of love, joy, laughter, family, friendship, activism, art, hikes, theatre, travel, cooking, mental and physical fitness, cats and dogs, and plants. His gifts and talents were many: He spoke several languages fluently, had a successful banking career, was an avid reader and lifelong learner, an exceptional photographer and artist, and a devoted and involved activist and philanthropist with many charities and organizations including AIDS Toronto. He was the funniest storyteller ever and a loyal and devoted friend.

In memory of David, donations may be made to the United Way: https://www.unitedwaygt.org/

A Celebration of Life will take place in Toronto.
