Obituary

To know her was to love her.  Harron, Gwendolyn Faye (nee Ward) – passed away with her family by her side at Owen Sound hospital on Saturday October 26th, 2024, in her 83rd year.  Cherished, loving mother of Sandy of Innisfil, Brad (Pam) of Paisley and Tracey of Port Elgin.  Beloved Grandma of Alexandra and Sam Raskob, Ainsley and Curtis Harron.  Very loved by many nieces and nephews.  Survived by her sisters-in-law Lillian Harron, Yvonne Harron and Linda Mewhinney. Predeceased by her parents Edgar and Margaret Ward (nee Miller), sister Veryl Gibbons, former husband Wayne Harron, brothers-in-law Douglas Harron, Gary Harron, Don Mewhinney and Bill Shrider.  Gramma Gwen will be lovingly missed by Arielle, Hayden, Harper, the MacDonald and Siegrist families.  Fondly remembered by her neighbour and friend, Fran Grant.

Gwen grew up in Port Elgin where she loved biking up and down the hills to the beach with no hands.  She graduated from Northern Business College in Owen Sound before joining Victoria & Grey Trust Company, eventually retiring from Scotiabank after 42 years of service.

Gwen loved raising her family and living in Tara where she took great pleasure spending time with her neighbours Aileen and Blake Sinclair, being the President of the Tara Curling Club and a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Gwen’s biggest love in her life was her family.  She had a passion for Harrison Park where she took part in everything including walks, Christmas lights, playing cards, singing, watching the fish, feeding the birds, going for lunch, and indulging in an ice cream cone. She spent winters in Florida and Texas and enjoyed travelling to many countries including a mediterranean cruise with her dear friend Kay Thomson.  She loved swimming at Stonetree, Julie McArthur and all the beaches.  She loved games day with her Sew Be It ladies. She derived great pleasure in her annual howdenvale beach day with her friends, Karen Beach, Wendy Reis and Cathy Lemon.  Gwen loved going to see live music with Kaye MacKenzie. She loved sitting by the stream with her cousin Marlene McGarvey and visits to Sauble Beach to see her cousin Doug Lennox (Mary).

Recently, as her health failed she moved to Gateway Haven in Wiarton.  While her stay was short, her family appreciates the wonderful care she received there.  The family would also like to thank the wonderful nurses and doctors from the Owen Sound Hospital for their end of life care for not only their patients but for their caregivers as well.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of Gwen’s life at Lakeshore Racquetball Club 1177 Goderich St, Port Elgin on Saturday, November 2nd from 2 pm.  Words of remembrance at 3 pm.  Elevator access via main entrance.  Memorial contributions to The Salvation Army via donate.salvationarmy.ca or The Owen Sound Hospital Foundation via brightshoresfoundation.ca or a charity of your choice.
